Whilst the club is quiet and you are keeping safe at home we have been working with Miroslaw like determination. We have been updating our website and building a new Singles League Portal.
For those interested in techy stuff the site has been built with WordPress and simply uses the default theme. The idea was to create a clean, mobile friendly site. We hope with some volunteer help we can keep it up-to-date.

The Singles League Portal allows you to register an account and manage multiple players from within that account. You can book a place for you or other players in your family. Previously registered players have been imported into the new system but will need to use the ‘Lost Your Password‘ Link on the Singles League Login Page.

Woodfield coach Chris Tarr created the opportunity for the junior players to participate in a winter training camp. Over two days, the players were able to train at a high level of intensity with a lot of support from several other coaches as well as Chris. This type of camp allows the players to develop much further with their skills than a regular training session would let them.
The coaches that Chris invited included Des Douglas, Richard Facey and Woodfield’s national cadet champion, Charlotte Bardsley.
Junior British League returned again to the fabulous Derby Arena and it always attracts the best players from all over the country and also from overseas. Woodfield boys were in Div. 4B and this proved to be a big test for the players all weekend as every match was very hard fought.
In the first match against St Marys Tigers, on his debut for Woodfield, Josh Webb who is still a cadet player recorded Woodfield’s first win of the weekend with a very convincing 3-0. However this was the only victory the boys could manage in that match as both Jamie Chen and Josh Roura lost close matches in 4 sets.
Some very tough matches followed, but the boys kept at it and both Josh Webb and Josh Roura were on the scoresheet on Sunday morning against London Academy 2. Josh Webb also had chances to make it a double in that match as he lead 2-1 before finally losing 2-3 to London no3.
Josh Webb then rounded off what had been a very solid weekend debut performance at Derby with another victory in the last fixture against BATTS B.
Overall a great experience for the players to learn to compete with the top under 18 players.
Woodfield member Charlotte Bardsley came away from the Cadet & Junior National Championships with a total of 5 medals: 3 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze.
Charlotte played in 6 competitions over two days, winning 15 out of 18 matches. Seeded 1 in the Cadet girls, Charlotte won the final 4-0 against her doubles partner, Megan Gidney. Charlotte had earlier partnered with Megan to win the cadet girls doubles title against Alice Dillon and Darcie Proud. Charlotte again with Megan won team gold for Burton Uxbridge in the Junior Team event, winning against Swerve in the semi and then the National Table Tennis School (Ackworth) in the final.
In the Juniors Charlotte made it to the mixed doubles final with Matt Leete and with her partner Zhana Hall were just one point away from making the Junior Girls doubles final. In the Junior singles, Charlotte won a bronze medal, losing in the semi-finals.
Woodfield players Megan Jones and Charlotte Bardsley competed in the National Cup. Megan was playing in the U12 competition and Charlotte in the Cadet. Both of these competitions were played at Preston and featured a masters format, where the best 10 players in the age group played a round robin over two days. In the cadet competition the matches were best of 7 and in the U12 it was played as a best of 5. The competition is probably the toughest one of the whole season as every match is going to be a hard one and each win counts towards the final position. The cadet girls play at the same time as the U12 boys and then the U12 girls play at the same time as the cadet boys. After each match, there isn’t too much time for rest and food before you are into the next match.
This was the first appearance for Megan at a National Cup and she played well, recording 3 wins. In the National Cup, the final competition position is often sorted out on a countback system, and Megan was unlucky to be on the wrong side of this at Preston, where two other players also finished on 3 wins. This meant Megan finally finished in 8th place. She will have learnt a lot from playing in such a competition against the very best players in the country and also being able to watch all of the cadet matches. This is all very valuable experience at such a young age.
For Charlotte Bardsley, this was her 2nd appearance at the Cadet National cup, having come 3rd last year. After missing out on the Junior National cup the previous weekend through injury, Charlotte was determined to put in a good performance though still not 100% fit.
Charlotte managed to battle through 8 matches with victories and so it was down to the final match against Megan Gidney to determine the overall winner. Megan had 7 victories at this stage but a win over Charlotte would give her gold on countback. After losing out on Gold in the Junior National cup last year via countback, Charlotte put every effort in not letting that happen again and put on a strong performance in the final match, coming out a 4-0 winner and claiming her gold medal. Unfortunately for Megan Gidney, she dropped from a potential 1st place to 4th as a consequence of the next 3 players all finishing on 7 wins.
Woodfield L, managed and captained by Piotr Baranek, ended in a creditable fifth position in Wolverhampton Division 3. They won the Division 3 league cup by defeating Electricity A in the final at Great Wyrley (7-3) and also won the Handicap Cup against Albert 377.5 – 345.

End of season presentations at Woodfield Sports and Social Club on Friday 28th April, 2017.
This season Woodfield fielded a record number of 4 teams in the National Cadet League. Cadet League is a great opportunity for young players to play in a competition with a team format. The matches also qualify for points on the England national ranking. With matches being played on several weekends at Wood Green school near Walsall, Woodfield players came away with medals in all 3 divisions.
Woodfield A comprising of Josh Roura, Harry Fletcher , Jamie Chen and Megan Jones finished in 2nd place overall in Division 1 and beat winners and previously unbeaten Stroud on the final day who were just too far in front to be caught.
Woodfield B came out on top in division 2 with Ben Taylor, Euan Madhar and Toby Fletcher playing really well on the last day finishing on 36 pts , 5pts clear of second place.
Woodfield D comprising of Ronnie Brown, Dan Jones, James Bevan and Jack Potter were clear winners of Division 3 on 42 pts ahead of Woodgreen C on 34 pts . Ronnie Brown won the most valuable player award in Division 3 with 26 wins.
All in all a great last day of the competition with all our teams playing fighting hard and showing great team spirit. Many thanks goes to all our coaches who gave up their time to coach, Stefan Baranek, Paul Fletcher, Richard Facey, Peter Hargreaves & Ramesh.
